Robert Harvey
Hello, my name is Robert Harvey.
Four years ago, I rededicated my life to Christ. It was the hardest conversion experience of my life because it demanded a complete transformation. If someone had known me before then, they would probably say, “Really, this guy?” Frankly, I would have said the same thing.
For years, I drifted through life with no real direction. I devoted myself to sin and debauchery because I believed discipline was little more than a lie invented by narcissistic people to convince themselves they were morally superior. Virtue seemed like a façade. Christianity was no different. Although I had attended several different church denominations throughout my life, I became increasingly convinced that Christians believed things they could neither defend nor explain. I eventually adopted an atheistic mindset. Ironically, the atheists I encountered were often among the most cynical people I had ever met, leaving me to wonder where truth could actually be found.
Everything changed when I met a man who welcomed my questions instead of avoiding them. He was intelligent, patient, and deeply committed to Scripture. For nearly three years, he answered my objections, challenged my assumptions, and encouraged me to investigate Christianity honestly rather than dismiss it. His influence ultimately led me to Sunset International Bible Institute.
Studying at Sunset was both humbling and transformative. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies while receiving intensive training in biblical interpretation and expository preaching. At the same time, my curiosity led me beyond the classroom into the study of Christian apologetics, ancient history, archaeology, and the historical reliability of Scripture. Much like Lee Strobel’s investigation, I discovered that the more seriously I examined the evidence, the stronger my confidence in the Christian faith became.
Today, I am continuing that pursuit as I seek admission into graduate studies focused on defending the Christian faith. I believe Christians should not believe simply because they have inherited a tradition, nor should they fear honest questions. Our faith is capable of withstanding rigorous investigation because it is grounded in truth. The Bible is not merely a collection of religious writings. It stands upon remarkable historical, archaeological, philosophical, and prophetic foundations that deserve careful study.
My ministry reflects that conviction. I am committed to expository preaching, that is, the art of delivering an explanation of scripture, which faithfully explains God’s Word while equipping Christians to understand why they believe what they believe. I want believers to leave the assembly not only encouraged by the gospel but also intellectually grounded in it, prepared to defend their hope with confidence and humility.
If there is one thing I hope people remember about my ministry, it is this: faith and careful thinking are not enemies. Science, History and The Christian Faith are not competitors. Loving God with all our heart also means loving Him with all our mind, and I believe the church is strengthened when both are cultivated together.
Thank you for allowing me to share my journey. I look forward to serving alongside you as we seek to know God’s Word together, more deeply and defend it faithfully as we strive to live it courageously.
His Blessings,
Robert Harvey
